He Walks the Earth

It turns out that Mark Cordory's Cthulhu mask from earlier this month is part of a costume. An incredibly huge costume that towers above puny humans. Sweet fancy Moses, this is just insane.

The Cthulhu costume is mind boggling, but you'll find some equally impressive work in the rest of his gallery.

... Holy crap, that is insane.

Any idea on construction time, materials, etc?

Absolutely impressive! However I can expect that wearing the costume will be very hot. I have seen a few with water circulating systems for cooling, but that is pretty advanced. The other problem with masks is poor peripheral vision, especially looking down where you are walking. It’s always best to have a couple of minions helping Cthulhu along so he doesn’t trip. I have worked a number of SF convention costume contests over the years and know there are a lot of limits to a costume like this. But frankly, the overall aspect makes it work the work. Kudos.

Thanks for the link guys.

As to the question of vision and heat - you're actually looking through the holes in the chest and the vision's pretty good (including the all-essential "where-the-hell-am-I-walking" view of the ground).

The whole costume weighs in at 18.5kg so actually he's pretty light for his size but yes - you'll probably need a drink when you climb out of him ;)

...also, since the costume was made as a LARP commission, wearer visibility was always an issue since the costume had to be worn in a high-combat situation. Not much use if the wearer can't see who he's clobbering!

You'll find my latest 'Mythos'-based creation on my website - this time it's a Mi-Go corpse created for a LARP event in the UK.
