Cthulhu Fhtagn! Orphan Edition
Artist "Holy Orphan" brings us this Cthulhu idol cast in bronze. The depiction is pretty close to Lovecraft's sketch of the infamous idol from "The Call of Cthulhu".
Nice how the upper claws and tentacles parallel each other in strong verticals, then further below the claws and base contrast in verticals and horizontals.
Admittedly it's only Euclidean geometry instead of the feared non-Euclidean kind the stories mention, but it still tugs on the old association between geometry and magic.
Genuine Arabian magical tradition (magical squares etc.), not just HPL's fictional "Mad Arab", draws on that.
And then think of the "Outer Limits" title narration: "We control the vertical; we control the horizontal...."
